Delicious 15 Minute Black Bean Burgers
Meatless, protein-rich burgers made with black beans, salsa and cheese… a favorite in our house. My kids love them, but not only my kids- their friends too! In fact, when my son was in Elementary school, I used to pack an extra burger in his lunch for his buddy Franz who had come to expect his black bean burger! Plus, I like to have some recipes in my rotation that don’t require meat, and these are so good that nobody misses it!
What’s in Delicious 15 Minute Black Bean Burgers?
Black Beans
Pepper Jack Cheese
Salsa
Breadcrumbs
Egg
Cumin, Salt, Cornstarch
There you have it, they really don’t require many ingredients, do they? For me, these are staples that I usually have in the house so it’s easy to whip up a batch last minute (great for unexpected guests or extra kids you end up feeding :)).
Black Beans
Canned black beans are great in this recipe. Here’s why, first of all they’re easy! Second, they’re very tender which gives you more of a meat/burger type consistency. These are an absolute must to keep in your pantry!
Making them Gluten Free
These delicious 15 minute black bean burgers can be easily modified to be gluten-free… just use gluten free breadcrumbs in place of regular. I really like this brand.
If you don’t have gluten free breadcrumbs you can use crushed tortilla chips or Corn Chex Cereal. I’ve had good results with both, just make sure you crush them into fine crumbs.
Cheese
We like Pepper Jack cheese in this recipe, but any type of Cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese is delicious.
Salsa… Hot or Not?
This is another variable… some like it hot! My family is particularly fond of hot stuff, so I use medium salsa and Pepper Jack cheese which gives the burgers a nice kick. Try different combinations according to your tastes.
Big Batches…
If you have a big family or you’re feeding a crowd these are really great. I always double the recipe so that I have leftovers for lunches the next day. Besides that, I have teenagers… need I say more?
One more thing, I always use a griddle to fry my burgers. It makes it so much easier to get them finished in one batch! However, if I double the recipe, I’ll need to fry two batches. My griddle will do eight burgers at a time. The one I use
